Busy with ProGen Study Group Assignments

I am working on my marketing plan for gsgenealogy and next month the business plan is due.  I took a SBDC course in developing a Business Plan but there were no sample plans for Genealogy research available from the resources they provided.  The template they provided was a useful tool to begin the marketing plan.

Have you cataloged your Genealogy Book, magazine and electronic resources yet?

This is the latest assignment for ProGen Study group. Hopefully, I will have a list by month end. I found that several of the books listed in Professional Genealogy (except three) were at my local genealogy library. Some of these I can check out and others I need to read at the library. They have an exceptional collection of Local Genealogical society publications which I can search with PERSI.

Pro Gen Study Group and APG

The Pro Gen Study group will meet at Jamboree. There will also be a Southern California APG meeting at Jamboree. Jamboree is only one week away. I can hardly wait! I will be meeting up with some of my friends from the San Diego Genealogical Society who plan to take the train. We took the train two years ago and it was a relaxing ride and the hotel for Jamboree was across the street. We could not all fit on the shuttle so some of us walked to the hotel. They were doing construction at the hotel… Continue

Research Notes for Edward Ward and Son Joel Ward and Grandson William L. Ward in Richland, Wayne, Ashland and Knox Counties of the State of Ohio

Joel Ward was born in Richland County, Troy Township. Ohio in 1831. I found a great map of the Original Richland County in the "Past Finder" Newsletter from the Richland County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society, it was in Volume 11 #2 April-June 1992 on Page 29. I located this publication at the Georgina Cole Library in Carlsbad, California. The map was originally from "Ellsworth's Original Land Records of Richland County, Ohio". On this map Troy is in R19. I found a more detailed map on… Continue

San Diego County Genealogical Society meeting summary by Colleen Fitzpatrick "The Forensic Genealogist".

A frequent visitor to our genealogical society, Colleen Fitzpatrick PhD came to set the scene of her story with a combination of logic and humor. I always enjoy hearing her speak. It was a story of mystery and intrigue. One man with a mysterious past and two families who were descended from him. She combined modern DNA research with tried and true genealogy research methodology. She was searching for current descendants using the Census, City Directories, the phone book, electronic databases as… Continue

Gates family of Groton CT and then Leyden,MA Peter Gates who was his father?

Looking for the Father of Peter Gates from Groton, New London, Connecticut. Peter was born 26 Feb 1750. An ancestry tree puts Peter as the son on Zebadiah Gates and Sarah Woodmansey but the Book (found on Google Books) Stephen Gates of Hingham and Landcaster, Massachusetts and his descendants by Charles Otis Gates does not support this. It has a completely different list for children of Zebadiah Gates which does not include children: Mary, John, David (brother of Peter who owned land with him… Continue
