Over on another of my blog pages I posted a note about a seminar some of us at CVGS attended last weekend.
Hemet - San Jacinto Genealogical Society hosted a great day of knowledge and prizes and terrific lunch.
Lunch was provided by the Boy Scouts of America. I am learning new methods of lunches all the time.
We are hoping for a large seminar like we did last October this October, so my eyes and ears are out there learning.
We had a choice of three types of large sandwiches, Potato Salad, Macaroni Salad, cookie, fresh fruit and a
choice of water, soda or other beverages. Many of us asked for a spare carry for the other half of sandwich.
This is the Scouts fund raiser for the year. I found that idea very unique and as the spokesperson said as both
activities are Tax exempt it was a big win win situation and they have worked together for several years in doing this.
The facility at the library was large and very spacious. It comes with a large kitchen, a side room to sell books or
set up a separate section. They had their book sale in this area. Near the kitchen door they had the coffee, tea,
water and donuts for sale for refreshments in between events. Plenty of room to move around and speak with
various fellow attendees. They were able to set more than 150 people at tables and watch the screen and presentation by Curt Witcher. There was room for probably another 30 or so people in another row of tables.
Displays were set up behind the guests with advertisement for the Jamboree in Burbank attended by Leo M and
offers to take advantage of. Many societies had their information on the table for you to become aware of.
I liked what I saw and learned. How fortunate for them that when they created the facility they had the forsight to
make this an area for groups or agencies to meet and share time.
Their Library runs on near the same amount of people as ours does in Chula Vista, but they have a great group of
volunteers. The society really backs their program.
The door prizes were awesome: from a portable scanner, 3 days at Jamboree, many other genealogical items,
Dinner at various places in town, a thumb drive also a pen combination, Avon supplies, and many other items.
This was a really great event and to all of you whom made it happen thank you.
This page talks about the Speaker and event.
