Some things my Grandfather and Mom noticed.  She has very long arms and hands. My Mom's also were long and hung to almost her knees. (She kept them folded so people couldn't tell)  She has tobacco in her mouth.

Grandad could name her when I was little when older he just called her his Grandma Great Great. Her mouth is so turned down, I wonder if she ever smiled. Eyes appear to be dark, hair is dark, I suspect she was about 5" 7 or so. Wide shoulders. long open neck, her chin reminds me of mine. hair is braided, pin at neck of dress or it could be a blouse ie dress with gathered waist band looks like buttons down the side. ?? this is not Elizabeth HIggins but could be her Mom Mary Henderson Higgins?  Catherine Stollar Plants? Catrouch Fry Huffman?

Susi,

I am new to this site but noticed your wonderful photograph. I do not have her pic but would like to make some observations that might help in identifying her. The hairstyle, with it's middle part and over-the-ears sides, indicates an 1860's style. Also, you can just see the edge of a hairnet that held the back hair (waterfall) in place. The style of dress emphasizes shoulder width with it's very low armscyes and horizontal yoke. The high waist indicates a short corset that became popular in the early 60's. She is wearing a round hoop which also indicates early 60's. The bishop sleeves were popular at various times in the 19th century but tighter-fitting sleeves were usually worn in cold weather, suggesting that this pic was likely taken in warm weather. She looks a little aggravated at the long exposure time but I think she's chewing tobacco, which might indicate she's in the South. This pic definitely dates from the early to mid 1860's. Hope this helps!
