Bloggers Topics and Comments That Moved Me this Week.
For me, an interesting week has passed. I just blogged over on my other site about the communities doings of this last week.
But I want to share my thoughts on some of the outlying data that reached out to my mind. I think they carry more weight than all the judging contests ever could.
I loved when someone said, " Why do you do Genealogy?" " Why would you recommend someone to do Genealogy?",
"What makes Genealogy Important to you or your family?". Dr Bill thank you.
Also was impressed with people talking about the things we can bring into our research that many do not think of.
Maps are critical in research, calendars are critical in research, time lines, time zones and time changes are important.
When I started my classes in Lemon Grove they had a fabulous Series of History books of old. One dealt with just the weather in the 1720's and 1680's and various time lines. Another dealt with food and it's need to be grown and crops and survival of the masses. In the book on weather it talked of the major storms that affected various parts of the world and dominately the USA before we were formed. The ships attempting to pull into port and a storm would come up and push it back out towards sea. Anyone know how many ships were sank in Boston Harbor attempting to dock? It was an Americana Series of books.
But it brought to fore that there is more than just names and dates and places. There was ice storms that froze people in their apartments in the cities but the farm people survived due to only relying on themselves. The cities were dependent on the milkman, produce man, the coal man, the meat man to bring food to them in ugly weather. But there were some storms so ugly they could not go out and service the people and for a long period of time and so they lost many in the apartments or housing that they were in.
There are rivers that flowed and no longer barely run. There are creeks of today that were rolling rivers of days of old.
There were mountains then that are just knolls left from the weather and construction changes.
Genealogy really encompasses all facets of ones life. I hope we move on to talking more about the things we have barely touched as we dig deeper into our past and learn more about how it may affect our future.
My wish is that teachers could teach history via Genealogy. Social Studies and Music and Math also can be done via Genealogy. If a child can learn the names of all the card characters in a game he learned to play at 1st grade. Why can we not teach about our past in a game format fun to learn and easy to understand.
My grandson after we had this talk the other day said,"Gee Grandma, that is what those tips are that I keep reading in this game I have." See maybe just maybe someone at Comic-Con listened to a group of us talking about making these games more educational with out making it so obvious.
