Free Family History Websites

I've operated a free family history website since 2000. And, over the years I've seen many genealogy and family history websites come and go. I can understand why as it's expensive to run a larger genealogy website, and I appreciate all of those who give it a try.

What I have a problem with are those websites that claim to be a free family history website, but then end up charging you for access. I mean, I guess you can get away with calling your own company a free website if you allow visitors to perform a search of your database. It's just a bit misleading that you can search the data for free, but can't gain access to read the data.

Anyway, that is why recently I published on ezinearticles an article entitled Do Free Genealogy and Family History Websites Exist?. Check it out by clicking here.

Yeah, unfortunately ezinearticles does not like it when I insert too many links. The best route to find truly free websites is by far our good friend Cyndi at Cyndislist.com. Also, another 'trick' I use is to search ONLY .gov and .edu websites when I search on google for specific keywords. As we all know, we can find vital records for free from various state and county websites but it's just sometimes a bit of a pain ;)

I like your article (both here and following the link), but you don't share the free resources. How do you find truly free research sites?
