Looking for a James Smith is almost impossible. Our JAMES C. SMITH was born in Woolwich area (Preston) in 1801 as per his Muskegan, Michigan census prior to his death in 1887. He MAY have been the son or grandson of a Samual and Sara Smith and is father MAY have been Ward Smith. Sara's maiden name was Ward. History indicated a road was build through to the Grand River by "Smith and Ward" - is this a coincidence? James C. Smith married Elizabeth Baer and after her death he married Julia Letson.
He indicated his parents were from Connecticut and we have no idea when, how or why they may have come to the Woolwich area.
If anyone has come across info in their research please share it with us. Many thanks.
Peri Smith
