I have done pretty extensive research in the past 6 months and found out quite a bit in regards to my maternal grandfather's family. Neal Hobbs is my great-great grandfather. He had a VERY interesting relationship with his wife, Ellen's, sisters. He had MANY children by more than one of his Ellen's sisters, my great-grandmother being one of the sisters, Delia. So needless to say its been an interesting background to trace. Incidentally because of his infamy, he is the one that the family has the most history on. With that knowledge, I was able to trace back his history to his owner and father, David Madison Hobbs. Unfortunately, I have no clue who Neal's mother was...which bothers me, for obvious reasons. Although Neal has been my main focus, due to the amount of information I had to go on, I would like to find out as much as I can about all of m ancestors. Starting with my maternal grandfather's side, since so far he's been the easiest to trace....although he was the only grandparent that passed away before I was able to get a chance to know him...I was 1 yr old when he passed away.
My grandfather's mother's name was Percy Hudson Reed Moore. Her family has been the easiest to trace. Percy's parent's names were Delia Hudson and Neal Hobbs. Dealia's parent's names were Jeffry and Anne Hudson. My grandfather's father's name was Jeff Moore. Jeff's parents' names were Causey Anderson Moore and Wesly Moore. Both Jeff and Percy were previously married and each had two girls by those unions. I have not been able to find any evidence or census records to support this. Jeff's first wife's name was Nettie. Percy's first husband's name was John Thomas Reed. A handsome blue eyed "mulatto" man with two sisters (whose names I do not know).
All of my ancestors on this side met in Holmes County or Carroll County, MS. If anyone can help or is any relation, I'd love to hear from you.
