We have mothers and fathers and think that's enough. It's not. You look at their faces searching and wondering how theirs made you. Finding an ancestor says that's where my eyes come from. I like wearing socks and loafers. My parents didn't but someone in my past does. I know this because I don't know a name, and haven't seen a face, I know their walk. They walk like me, or I walk like them.
I successfully researched my mother's father side and was able to obtain information back to 1825, Bob and Betsey Hairston .from Sauartown NC. A plantatiion owned by Peter Hairston I feel I know them. Their son, Tippo was my great grandfather. So much work was put forth and to actually find names was exhiliarating.
I'm in the process of finding my father, Cecil Boyd's family. His father was Frank Boyd from Waycross Georgia, dying here in Columbus Ohio. I want to know how and why Frank came to be in Columbus.
Frank had a sister named Laura,. I saw a photo of her daughter, Willieboyd Saddler. It was not just that Willieboyd had made a success and quite interesting life. She looks like me. This woman who I never met, had no knowledge of, but finding her mother's name, Frank's sister Laura, I found another link to my past. I seen me. I'm proud.
