Starting in the Middle of the Page for Genealogy.
Now have you ever done that? Leapt in with both feet and landed in the middle, the choice to go forward or to go back wards. Do we look to the future generations or do we look at the past generations? It makes for an interesting tilt to your research.
Some times unorthodox methods shake the tree and good fruit falls from it.
Some say that I am out to collect the most relatives I can, no that is not the truth. I am out to get the best information available and to meet as many related families that can help me be a more whole person. We are the sum of the whole from our past.
We have had many topics on blogger pages but one day we will have others than what we have had. How many of you have researched the weather during the time of your missing ancestors life? At one time in the Lemon Grove Library, San Diego County system they had an awesome series of books on weather and related topics and how it affected this countries history. I cried when I learned they pulled them from the system and no one knew where they went.
I was doing classes uses the information that those books had in them. O yes weather affects your genealogy a very great deal. Just look at the recent events in this world for death and destruction in many places. Did they have their genealogical data stored in a cloud so it is not lost. Did they send their family information away to others so that it is preserved in another part of the country or world?
My husband's family lost a father in a ship that got to the pier twice only to be pushed back out into the bay when a horrid storm hit the coast. When the ship finally made shore to tie up and hold he had already been put over the side the day before due to death.
We read about how the Potomac River and the surrounding bay is huge and was clean and you could see the bottom of the sea floor in the days of the 1600, 1700 and early 1800's. That is gone the large fish and creatures are now small and diminished in size. Much of the area I understand is gravely polluted and still causing havoc with the marine life.
All these things affected our ancestors, worse all these things then affect us today.
So try starting in the middle some time. Take a date and work it up and work it down and look at the weather in the surrounding years. Of course you will find wars and famine and health and wealth all in a time line of time.
