Temptation with Research

It is so tempting at times to just take data and run with it. But it is not mine and I can not say if any of it is true.
It may all be correct and that is just fine but the work is still not mine.

Does any one cold call yet today? Do we get a directory and contact all people of a certain surname to see if they have a chance to be akin of thine?

Do we call the Chamber of Commerce in the small towns and villages to ask for advise as to what area would know where we should go to gather further information on our lines?

I have had a great time doing the blank calling to find a kin of mine or thine.

I was reading a large genealogical society's newsletter and when people were asked what is their number one site of interest a heart felt shutter came over me. The group that helped to get us off the ground floor seems to be forgotten by many.

I still hold it is the best place to start and finish your research. USGENWEB.ORG started the internet growth.
Why are we abandoning the one group that covers each state and each county and many towns within them in major detail. Alas some are not as strong as days gone by but it is because people are not stepping up to fill the shoes of those that have gone on by. Fortunately, the archives carries much data for us to browse through.

So with temptation in mind lets get back to the chase of a line with old fashion vigor and with the attitude of
young peoples time.

Remember the 5 W's of a reporter and you will sooner or later come out to shine.

You have to remember the beginnings of some of the larger research groups did some wierd dealings with our research and time way back in the beginning of thine and my time.
