As far as finding data on family and history I tend to be pretty good at that and have been able to score some really great finding on our family. Sadly I have become a data collector however and now its time to start putting all that "Stuff" into a program to organize it and make since out of all this information. WOW! what a task this is going to be with the information, documents, pictures etc that I have collected in a very short year or so. Being a data collector is only one step to research, though it is important, it is ONLY one step as I am learning now. (I know some of your are laughing about now as I am).
So now I am about to start sitting down to input all this stuff into a program. There is more research to do at this point! I need to know how to go about putting it in so that the program will package this all nice and neatly. Note to worry though about that. In this day and age I don't even have to go to the local book store and hope they have the information I need or try to find maybe a copy of an out dated manual at the local library. I have ebooks, forums, this site, a couple of hundred or so other options for information on the program I use (Legacy). WOW! information over load maybe but for those of us that like detail that is awesome!
I am very happy I have found this site as it is quick response to questions that I do not want to spend hours digging up in a multitude of sources. This is good. Sometimes there is only so much "free time" in the week to work on the task we want to do that week. The other thing that I have found is that it also helps when you are at that point, like I am, where you go, "oh no! What did I do?" While the task seems over whelming at first glance I think it is one that can be done in time. It will be interesting to see the challenges along the way.

In my view, there are three elements to data: collection, collation and dissemination.
How you choose to handle your next phase will be key to your ability to enter the final phase. Where (or to whom) and how you share your information needs to be considered before you begin the collation process. Once you know what your objective is, you will be able to plan how you sort and store the data you have collected.
If it is only for your own use, then one strategy may be adopted; if you want to share with the world, then another may be more appropriate.
But remember, as you progress, there will be more information coming to light, so more collation and more to share!
And, before you ask, NO, I have not solved the problem!
