Tips for Taking Your Camera On Vacation

Planning on a beach getaway this summer? When it’s time to pack for that vacation you’ve been counting down the days to, remember to consider bringing along these extras to make vacation photography a breeze:

Bring Ziploc bags of different sizes. These are great for sand, dirt, and water proofing your cameras as well as your new and exposed rolls of film if you’re using film cameras.

For terrific shots from a boat, on the beach or under water, grab a couple of cheap, one-use underwater cameras. The kids can use them and the underwater shots will give you some very unique vacation photos. It’s much cheaper than buying a separate underwater housing for your camera, and you don’t have to worry about the clean up!

The new GoPro HD Camera is one of my must-have items for travel. It’s inexpensive and shoots amazing quality photographs as well as high definition video, and it’s water-proof. You can mount it on anything; a helmet, front of your surfboard or boat, car bumper, …. the list is endless. Just make sure that when you take it out of it’s housing to clean it, you put the rubber O rings back on when putting it back together. I’ve heard horror stories of people who ‘forgot’ the ring.

If you’ve shot on film, be careful about packing it to bring back home. With airport security measures, checked luggage is subjected to high intensity x-ray that can damage your undeveloped film.
