Are you using the new, update Version 2009 (18.0.0.307) Template Feature?
What is your experience with this feature? Good or Bad?
Do you think it gets us, Users of the Family Tree Maker program, into the format of our Source-Citations as outlined in Elizabeth Shown Mills book Evidence Explained?
Just got back from a camping trip and had a chance to look at your blog using my example. Thank you! Your explanations are very clear and complete. The screen shots are helpful as well. It all makes sense when I look at something like this. I noticed all the other examples you have posted as well and I'm looking forward to going through them when I have a little more time.
Although, for the moment, I didn't start this Group to trouble shoot problems, as there are many of those resources in the Family Tree Maker Description page, I would like to know what wasn't linked.
Please go to the most appropriate GenForum and post the problem there, and we'll help you there. But, please reply with an example here. When I check the Message Board or the GenForums, I'll look for the details.
I find the new source templates just as cumbersome and useless as it was before. I am so frustrated with FTMs sourcing capabilities that I have stopped putting stuff into my database all together. I just cite them (myself - in my own way) in the notes section. I know how to properly source things, but i can't for the life of me figure out how to place the items in the source templates. For example, if I get an email from someone, I put their name in the author field. In the title field I put "Personal Correspondence" - this can be email, phone call, IM, etc. However, then I am duplicating the source titled "Personal Correspondence." And my software then gets all confused. When I click on that source again, it has changed the author to my name (I don't know how a source got created with me as the author). How do I get around this?
I just discovered the source template. I have been updating my source information and attaching my media images to my file. I like the source template, but I also find it very cumbersome. Sometimes I cannot find the right template for my source. Its cumbersome attaching the media files. I've found that I have to "attach" twice from two different tabs to get it attached. I think and I use it more and get more practice, it will go alot better.
I am working on providing some information on what is in the Templates. I think I posted 13 blogs over that past couple of days on these templates. I am many more that I will do, working my way down through each of the Template Groups, Categories of each Groups, then the Templates for each Category..
Once I am done that, I will see what I can do to show how to find the right Template a little quicker.
If you have a specific example of a Template that you need some help on, please post that here and I will see if I can show you.
What makes the Attach a Media to a Source-Citation?
OR are you trying to attach the SAME Image in two places?
