Hi Dodi-
I'm looking for anything on the death of Gus LaCour or his wife Mathilde LaCour in Texas or Lousiana. Gus was a widow in 1910, I have an article that he appears in in 1911, and I haven't found him yet in 1920 or 1930 yet, so I'm assuming he may have died between 1911 and 1920. I believe he would have been in Liberty, Texas.
Kate: I checked the TX and Louisiana CDs and I found a "J. LaCroir in TX listed as a German immigrant bet 1847-1861" and a few La Croix on the Louisiana CD but all the records for LaCroix were way too far back to be your Gus. It mostly concerned the War of 1812.
I also checked "Handbook of Texas" with no result and "Early Texas Births with no results for La Cour or any variation.
I'm sure there are some different spellings of your surname LaCour. If your Gus was from Germany, I will be glad to send what I have for your reference.
Kate, I was working on my own family in LA and on the same page with my family (Porche) was a Zenon Lacour.
I found it on the 1810 Pointe Coupee LA census. He was prob born in middle 1700s but he could be related to your Gus Lacour.
I thought I would let you know since the spelling is the same. This name was not listed in the index and I found it just by chance.
I have never uploaded a file here and don't know how this will work but I have attached the file for you. You will have to let me know if you can't open it or can't read it. I will be glad to send to you by regular mail, Dodie
Thank you for volunteering your time to do lookups in Texas. Would you please look for a birth record for Mary Harriett MINOR, born 27 Dec 1846 in Houston, TX? I have this piece of information in a widow's pension application for her husband, Andrew W. LASCELLE. Her father was Jarvis Golden MINOR and her mother was Mary Ann CASTLEMAN.
Yes, I will be glad to do lookups for you. I will have to wait 'til tomorrow to get back to you. Obligations for this evening. But, I will be in touch with you in this group.
Karen, I have found nothing for a birth of Mary Harriet Minor. I have to tell you that you may not find an official birth record for her. Most of my g. and gg grandparents before 1870 in TX do not have birth records. They were not required and are just not available.
What I have done is accumulate as many sources for the birth date of each of my ancestors as I could find and then applied the Genealogical Proof Standard. My sources came from family Bibles, censuses and as you said,Confederate Pension Records. Anything that states a birth date.
I searched "Early Texas Births" with no result.
I searched "Handbook of Texas": wih the following result:
Fred Hawthorne Minor (1888-1976) lawyer, politician from Denton Co TX. Parents: John Rufus Minor and Elizabeth Matilda (Boyd)
I searched "Early Texas Settlers" with the following result:
Jarvis Minor, Travis Co TX, Republic of Texas Poll Lists for 1846 (I have attached a copy to this post).
There are a number of MINOR names on this CD:
Clement Minor
Diana Ann Minor
Eleanor Joyce Joye Scoville Minor
Elizabeth Minor
Ephriam Minor
Garrett Minor
Grace Minor
Hanna Minor
Henry Minor
Isabella Minor
J.J. Minor
James Minor
John Minor
Joseph Minor
Juda Minor

Thomas Minor
I am just sending these as a point of possible interest. If you need to see a copy of anything let me know. I hope you can use something in all this. Dodie
Karen, in "Early Texas Settlers" I also found the following CASTLEMAN names:
Andrew Castleman
Elizabeth
Jacob
James
John
Louvinia, Lavinia
M.D.
Margaret
Michel
Milly
Nancy

I didn't find anything for LASCELLE or any variation of spelling
Kate, a copy of the census page for Zenon Lacour is attached to my post above. I will send the page with the other two names.
The underlines on the page I am sending are my family. If you have a blank 1810 census form, you can copy the info for your family to it and use the copy I send to support it. The source is noted at the bottom of the page.
If you need a blank 1810 form, I can send one.
Look for attachment at bottom left of message. And, let me know if you can open and read them, please.
