William Henry McClain d 1873 Chaplin, Arkansas

I am looking for William Henry McCLAIN, born abt 1813 in either Kentucky or North Carolina, died 1873 in Chaplin, Madison, Arkansas. He married Martha Ledbetter, born 1830 in Overton, Tennessee, died 1821 in Chaplin, Madison, Arkansas. I have found him and his wife on the 1860 and 1870 census records. Family lore indicates that Martha is his 2nd wife. I have looked at land records and through all the records in the Salt Lake City Family History Library. If anyone has suggestions of where else to look, or has him in your line, I'd appreciate any help I can get. Thank you so much,

Hi Shelia,

My next step would be to look for 1820 census records in Kentucky and North Carolina. Look for McClain’s and variants. Collect all that have a male child under the age of 10 and start tracing where the others in the family go. When you find one with the same trail it may lead you to other family documents with your William Henry mentioned. It’s a lot of work, but worth a try.
