Are you my great, great, great, great grandmother???

Here's my brick wall - I'm looking for the parents of Mahala Miller. Mahala married Henry Miller and as far as I can tell, they had 4 children (Mollie (my great, great grandmother), Jane, Ida and Annie). According to the 1880 Census she was born 1845 and lived in Lebanon, Kentucky. I have no idea what her maiden name was. I've searched for Mahala's in Kentucky and so far, can't seem to find a connection. The only tidbit of information I have is from my mom, she said that her mom used to say that her grandmother was Indian and Irish which is why she had the Indian shaped nose. Now whether that is true, I don't know. But, that's all I've got

This day Henry Miller and Mahalda (sic) Miller free persons of color appeared before me in my office, and stated that they had lived together as husband and wife for a period of about three years, and that they desire to continue to live together as husband and wife. Witness my hand as clerk of the Green County court at Greensburg, Ky., this 14th day of May 1870. D. T. Towles, Clerk

Wow, great find Marti! Was this something available on line or only at the library? I wonder, because they were listed as free persons of color, if they were once slaves. That would explain my inability to locate them prior to 1880. This is awesome, so they were officially married in 1870!

This was at the library---I googled and it is not online--I hope to go back soon and do some more searching. I have babysat most of the week and am worn out, so am not at my peak.
I am wondering tho why we can't find them in 1870--if they were slaves they would have been "freed" by 1870. I checked every Miller in Green Co in 1870---and only found a Mahala Miller, age 45, with a John Miller, age 68. Even with people not sure of their ages, this is way too off--I did think maybe Henry could be "John Henry"--a popular name. But again, the ages are just too way off...

Hi Pam-

I also found a Mahala Miller in 1870, married to a Lewis Miller in Meadeville, Meade County, KY, their children(I'm assuming, always dangerous to assume) were Ida born 1864, Wesley(male), born about 1865, Ephraim(male), born about 1867, and Louisa, born 1869.

I found it by doing a search for Mahala Miller in Kentucky on FamilySearchLabs

I know Mahala was married to Henry, which is how she became a Miller. I don't think this Mahala is the same.
