Susan's dad is a total mystery. I'm wondering whether or not he might have been a deserter using an alias or something. Any help would be appreciated.

Susan's maternal line (Lavinghouse) has been traced back to the 1100s in England. It's not my research though, so I regard it as suspect until I review the documentation. Snyder was her maiden name and that's about all anyone has been able to determine. She was a Civil War baby, born in a Confederate hospital camp town, and there were something like 21 pages of Snyders listed in Civil War records. Too many of them were in and around that area to trace them individually. At this point, I'm ready to believe she was the product of an immaculate conception, or that aliens planted an egg in her or something.
