This is a long-shot, but maybe I'll get something. I have a great-great-grandfather named Martin Burns (1820-1877) who immigrated from Ireland, though I can't locate any immigration or emigration records on him. I don't know WHERE in Ireland (other than "Northern Ireland"). I first find him in Spencer, Hamilton Co, OH (Spencer is a ghost town, now it's called Cinncinatti) in the 1860 census, where my great-grandfather John P Burns was born in 1857. They shortly thereafter moved to Grass Creek, Wayne twp, Fulton Co, IN. Why did they move to an area that contained a lot of other Burns? Were they related? I've never been able to locate any clear indication of this, though I searched hard. Martin Burns had 8 children, John P 1857, Mary Ann 1859, Margaret 1864 in IN, Sarah Jane 1866, Elizabeth 1870, a girl who died 1871, Julia A 1873 and Martin Jr 1875. Martin Burns died in 1877, before records were kept in Fulton Co. His wife Bridget G Burns died in 1904, after records were kept. On a whim, I sent for her death record and lo and behold, it listed her maiden name (Flynn), where she was born (Turloughmore, Co Galway, Ireland) and her parents names and where they were born (James Flynn and Margret Higgins, both in Turloughmore, Co Galway, Ireland). I know their daughter Mary Ann Burns, a nun, went to Ireland at one point. I am still struggling to find where Martin Burns was born in Ireland. Could there possibly be any records in Fulton Co that might point to where he was born? Any help would be useful.
