Do you know where Mary Jane Davis was born? It should be listed on her census report.
Do you know where her parents were born? This was not recorded until the 1880 census. I know you said Mary Jane died prior to the 1880 census report. What about any of her siblings? Do you know the names of any of her siblings? If so, you can check the 1880 census report for them and see where their parents were born.

Thanks for the suggestions, Ginger. I do not know where her parents were born or who her siblings were. The 1860 US Census lists a G N Davis, male, age 24 living with the family in Whitley Co., but have not been able to identify him in any Davis family in the general area. The 1850 US census, Huntington Co. does list a Mary J. Davis in the family of Herakiah and Hester Davis, but she is age 18, with a probable twin sister also age 18. Based on the 1860 and 1870 US censuses, Mary Jane should be 14 or15 in 1850. Also, there is no brother in this family with the initals G N and he would have been 6 in 1850, so should have shown up, if this was the right family and G N is her brother. To add complexity to this, he had a sister named Mary J. Aker age 12 in 1850.
