I am looking for the parents of Ancil Overlin. Ancil was born May 26, 1827 in Kentucky, possibly Ohio County. He died September 26, 1904 in Emporia, Lyon County, Kansas. Harriet Ticer(Minier) was his wife and Nancy Kelly was married to him before Harriet. Ancil and Harriet's children were Harry married to Mattie Ray and Halla/Hallie married to J.L Boggs. In the 1880 census Ancil said his father was born in Kentucky and his mother in Virginia. I have seen Ancil spelled Ansel and he used his initials A.H.
I have beeen searching for Ancil's parents for over 10 years. He is my biggist brick wall.

Michael,
Thank you for this info.I haven't had time to go through each and every word but I'm sure there is a lot of useful info.
Eileen
Thanks you for all your work. I guess I really don't have a log with families together. I have had no genealogy training but I can see the value of this type of organization. I hadn't seen the records but I am aware of his service.
If you look in SOS missouri archives you will find his pension records. It states he was born in Ohio county KY was 5'9

Sandy,
I am glad that you could confirm that Ancil was born in Ohio County, Ky, as I thought. Interesting that there was a description of him. That really brought him to life for me.
Gene,
I am sorry that I mis-spoke. In family search one post about Ancil stated he was born in Ohio. Someone on genforum suggested that he might have been born in Ohio County Illinois. It evolved into Kentucky. I knew what I meant but I didn't say it right,
Thanks for this valuable info.
Again, very valuable info.
No, I have never worked with pension files.
The State of Kansas did not have death records until 1911 and the death records aren't online for 1904 yet. I do intend to go to Emporia as soon as I can to check out the records there. I guess that is on my to do list. I forgot to say on one of my earlier posts that I am familiar with The Brant-Overlin Saga as I have a copy. Thanks, again.
Eileen
Have you read the book The Brant-Overlin saga
It is on heritage Quest
Starts with William Overlin in 1765

if its not available send me your email and i will copy and forward some pages to you
Yes, I have read the book and I have a copy but doesn't seem to help me in my quest for Ancil's parents
I will have to check to see where there is a family history center.
