Hi Linda my maiden name was CLARK and my GGrandfather - JAMES EDWARD CLARK was born in 1886 in DOVER. His father was JAMES RICHARD CLARK (b.1865 DOVER) Mother CATHERINE LAWLER (b.1868 GUERNSEY, C.I.) His siblings were

Frederick William (b. 1888 Ireland)
Thomas H (b.1891 Dover)
Lilian (b.1893)
Emily M (b.1896)
Walter Joseph (b.1910? Guernsey)

JAMES RICHARD CLARK'S father was JAMES EDWARD (b.2 Mar 1843 Dover) his mother was MARTHA LOCK CARSWELL (b.1846 Dover) I have a family tree started on www.Ancestry.co.uk/ called Clark (Guernsey) Family Tree.

I have more Clark entries back to JAMES/JAS CLARK/CLERK b.1769 GUSTON, DOVER.

I'm researching a CLARK family from Kent, but not specifically from Dover. My GG-Grandparents emigrated from their original home in the area of Sittingbourne / Milton Regis. James & Elizabeth CLARK left Kent about 1850 and settled in Ontario, Canada in a small farming community to the north-west of Toronto.

 

Upon the death decades later of one of their children, there is a badly handwritten recording of their mother's full name. Based on this single known document, it 'appears' Elizabeth CLARK's maiden name was WINGROSE. Not a common name to be sure, and it is entirely possible to have been mangled by the official recording it on the death certificate.

 

This may not be of the same CLARK family from Dover, but thought it worth mentioning on the off-chance it rings any bells with anyone.

I don't think your CLARKs are the same branch as mine.

Here are some bits I collected whilst doing my Clarks:

James Clark examined as a vagrant at Sittingbourne, settled St Margaret Westminster, Middlesex, by apprenticeship in 1803. Vagrant pass issued to St Margaret Westminster 1818 - ref. Centre for Kentish Studies Q/SBe 72

Hi, I am researching the Clark Family from Middlesex.  Samuel Clark (Lawyer) was my great great grandfather who married Harriet Dent on 29 June 1830, Paddington, St James, Middlesex.  I do not have a birth or a death date for him.  His children were Isaac (22/7/1833), Julia (22 March 1835), Albert (3/10/1837)(my great grandfather).  Albert emigrated to Australia in 1863.  The only Samuel Clark I can find in the 1841 England Census with a wife by the name of Harriet and a son by the name of Albert (4 years) is Clarke and that one states Samuel was born in 1816, making him 14 when he married if that is the correct one.  Hope someone is able to assist because the Law Society couldn't help me.  Thanks.  Jeff Gill
