I'm willing to work for my information, but frequently I don't know what I need (or where to get it), so I'm coming here for help.

The problem is: Have I proved the marriage of me and my current (second) husband?

FIRST: Is what we have adequate? It is a booklet issued by the church containing a page which gives the date and place of marriage and is signed by our minister and by my husband's sister and my youngest daughter as witnesses. It carries the number of the marriage license granted by the city of St. Louis.
A copy of this page is attached.

If this is sufficient evidence that meets Genealogical Proof Standards, we can stop right here; if I need more, I have some ideas about continuing, but many more questions. I'll be back with the questions if it is necessary to get further evidence.

I would think that would be pretty good proof, better proof would be the mariage license and marriage certificate. I always believe you can never have enough proof. As you get farther back in your lineage it will get harder to get actual first generation documents and you will have to work more with secondary sources. With secondary sources I believe more is better, and all those sources will most likely lead you to your primary original source for the fact you are citing. Just remeber to check things more than once, several times I have come back to a source and found new information that I missed the first time. Also sometimes you just need to set everything aside for a while, just to refresh your mind. And the last thing to remember, this is supposed to be fun.
I'm sorry I missed this answer for so long — as usual at this time of the year you can blame my discourtesy on the holiday rush which was preceded by a bad winter cold.

I do thank your for your input; my only remaining question is do I need to pay for a certified copy, or will a general issue copy be sufficient?

Thank you for your input,
Sue
Well, I like to get certified copies, but if a general issue copy has the exact same infomation on it I don't really see a problem with it. But, then again I am not a certified genealogist, although I do try and stick to their standards.
"Sticking to their standards" is what I am trying to do. I will take your advice and order the certified copy. Thank you for your help.
Your welcome, and good hunting in the future.
