Clinton county mystery
I am doing reserch on my ggg grandfather Isaac Stackhouse for DAR admittance. His grandson Joshua Stackhouse is the problem. I have found 2 joshua Stackhouse's. One born in Clinton and one born in Columbiana Co. They were born the same year. My Joshua has a wife named Mary McFarland the other has a wife named Ellen Jane Spencer. They are both listed as the son of Jacob and Grandson of Isaac with a list of the same children with my G grandfather George Woods Stackhouse. Joshua is my G Grandfathers son, but on George's death certificate his fathers birth was unknown and in the census Joshua has parents unknown. Any suggestions on how to fix this mystery. Isaac was buried in Ohio and is recognized as a Revolutioary Vet. Thanks Dianne

Hi Dianne, Do you have any idea when your Joshua was born?
I looked at the Clinton Co. Cemetery CD I have and I found a Joshua L. born 1844 who was a Civil War Veteran. And I found a Mary Eliza born in 1849 but her parents name don't match up with the maiden name you have. Her husband was Joshua T. Stackhouse; parents Bowlan and Lorenda Candy Cross. But I do not find a listing for Joshua T. on the CD I have.
I can poke around a few other places if you have any clue as to when he was born and a middle name if you might know that.

Joshua Stackhouse was born around 1823 Clinton Co. Wife Ellen Jane Spencer. His father Joshua died in Clinton in 1829

Hi Dianne, Sorry to take so long getting back to you.
I have not had a lot of time for hunting, too much real life stuff going on with the Holidays but I did do a little.
In the Ohio death Certificate s on the LDS site I found 5 of Joshua and Ellen's children. All five of them ( James, Alice, Charles, Benjamin F. and Joseph) are all buried at New Antioch cemetery in Clinton Co. I have been looking for contact info for the cemetery but have not found it yet, I will keep trying.
I did find info that it is still an active cemetery and that means if we can find contact info you might be able to find out if Joshua and Ellen are buried there and if there is any info in the records that might be helpful in figuring this out.
I will keep looking as I have time and post if I find anything. -

Joshua is supposed to have died in Wetzel County, WV. He was living with George Stackhouse his son. Mary McFarland died there also. His first wife is probably buried in Clinton County. Maybe. Dianne
