Looking for info on Jonas Conrad Deitz Killian

I have not located him in the 1850 census. I'm trying to determine the exact area he was in in 1880. I know that his son Marion and his descendants lived in the Propst's Crossroads area. I live in the Catawba County area and am very familiar with that area.

I believe that Jonas was bonded to a David Killian in Lincoln County when he was very young.

Are you descended from Jonas? If so, which line?

Jonas > Marion > Francis > Austin > Martha > myself.

I have connected with Mr. Hinds. We both recently attended a Andreas Killian family reunion. I am currently looking into your other suggestions. Thank you so much for providing some directions to go in.

I was really suprised and excited to see your information about Jonas Killian on the internet. Jonas is my great great grandfather. His son Luther was my great grandfather. Vernon was my grandfather. Samuel Lee Killian was my father and I am Samuel Lee Killian Jr. I am 61 years old and have been looking for information about Jonas my entire life. The one thing I can tell you for sure is that Jonas is a real mystery. I see you have a good bit of information on him. His mother Sally Deitz was born in 1803. Her mother Sarah Killian Deitz was the daughter of John Killian, son of Andreas so we're related to Andreas on two sides of our family. Who Jonas' father was is anyone's guess. As you said he was bonded to David Killian in 1830. This David Killian could have been the husband of Christina Deitz who was Sally Deitz' sister. This would've made him Jonas' uncle by marriage. This also could have been the brother of Solomon Killian. A neighbor of Jonas and his mother Sally Deitz. I have always thought it was possible that Solomon Killian could be the father of Jonas. I have also thought it was possible that David Killian, Sally Deitz' brother in law could actually be Jonas' father. In 1834 David Killian husband of Christina Deitz moved with his family to Georgia. In that year Jonas was bonded to Emanuel Deitz, his uncle. In 1840 Emanuel moves to Mississippi, it was at this time that Jonas was bonded to Elijah Smyre. This man was a wealthy blacksmith in Catawba county and taught Jonas the trade of being a blacksmith. I do know that in 1827, the year Jonas was born he was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church. I have his baptismal record, it is written in German. Only his mother Sally Deitz appears on the record as a parent. Jonas is baptized Jonas Conrad Deitz. Sometime around the year 1830 he started using the Killian last name. I have taken the Killian DNA test to prove that I am a descendant of Andreas Killian. This confirms the fact that Jonas' realy father had to be a Killian. Another interesting thing about Jonas is that he did not want to participate in the civil war. When push came to shuve he joined the Union Army in 1864. He served under Col. Kirk in the 3rd mounted North Carolina regiment. (union) It is somewhat strange that Jonas would choose to fight for the north. His wife Roxanna Cline had two brothers killed and a 3rd badly wounded while serving in the Confederate army. When Jonas returned home from the Civil War he was harrassed by the KKK and had an ongoing court battle in the Catawba county courts for several years against some of the Klan leaders. Jonas actually won his case and some of these people were forced to move from Catawba county. I have a lot of other information on Jonas that I would love to share with you. It is good to know that a distant cousin is also interested in Jonas. Please let me hear back from you.

My great grandfather Luther left Catawba county in the late 1890's. He moved to Cliffside, NC and then to Gastonia to work in the textile industry. My grandfather Vernon Killian moved to Great Falls, SC with his father Luther in 1916 to work in the textile mills located there. My father Samuel moved to Charlotte and was employed by Metropolitan insurance company for many years. Looking foward to hearing from you.

My name is Lee Killian. I am the great great grandson of Jonas Killian. I hope you got my e-mail. It is interested that you're descended Marion Killian. My grandfather Vernon Killian had a cousin named Lola Killian Lowe who lived in Catawba county. I knew her and visited old St. Paul's church in Newton with her my father, wife and children. Are you related to Lola? I think the two most likely candidates for Jonas' father are David Killian who was married to Jonas' aunt Christina Deitz and Solomon Killian who appears next door to Jonas on the 1850 census. Jonas is mistakenly refered to as James Killian and wife Roxanna in the 1850 census. Lola told me that she thought Jonas was buried at Miller's Lutheran Church. (ELCA) This church is located in Hickory next to two other Lutheran churches that are affiliated with the Missouri synod branch of the Lutheran church. My brother Ron and I have been searching records about Jonas for the past 40 years. We are still not certain who his father is, but his mother is definitely Sally Deitz. I have tons of information on Jonas I would love to share with you. Please let me hear from you.
