Margaret [Cleehan?] Hinchey is found in the 1880 Cook County Federal Census with her children Mary, Nellie, Katherine and John. The death certificate of John shows a possible maiden name of Cleehan, and possible husband name of Patrick. That information was provided by the oldest child, Mary.
The 1880 census shows Margaret {b. abt 1833/1834) and Mary (b abt 1857) born in Ireland, Nellie (b abt 1864/1865), John (b abt 1866) and Katherine (b abt 1869) born in Illinois. Have not yet found any of the birth records of those born in Illinois. The census shows the father born in Ireland, he is not found in the 1880 census with the family, so the surmise is he is deceased by 1880 or has abandoned the family.
So far I've been unable to take this Hinchey family back any further. Searches of passenger lists have turned up nothing. There's an 1865 Illinois Census listing for McLean County that could be the family, but it just shows age ranges and not much else, so without other confirming data, it's impossible to know if that's my Hinchey family.
Looking for connections back to Ireland. If information in the 1880 census is correct, this family likely would have come to the US between 1857 and 1865 when Nellie was born.
