The Sterling Genealogy compiled by Albert Mack Sterling is the book that got me hooked on genealogy.  My grandfather, born in 1899, is listed in Volume II.  At the time I first found it, I was able to borrow the book from the San Francisco Public Library and make copies of the pages I was interested in.  It's now at the Sutro Library and a reference book that is too old to be copied.  The digital version is on both the Internet Archives and Open Library.  There were some problems accessing both volumes on IE, but may now be resolved.
