Having recently downloaded the free version of Legacy I am most impressed. I usually use FTM but the new 2011 version is far different from the version I was using and am not at all happy with it.
Legacy gives me everything I need, especially the option to copy a file to clipboard. The only problem I am having is in generating a report. Whatever I do, I can only get the programme to show one family, and I would like a report on the descendants of the person who is shown on the screen.
Example: Joe Blogs is on screen with all his immediate family. I want a report to show all his descendants to present day, and to include notes I have made on each person. I hope this is possible as Legacy is a great programme. Regards Jean

Jean, Welcome, you made a good choice! Legacy has the option to create a number of charts and reports which can be accessed using Reports> Report Menu (Charts) and Reports>All Reports (Books & Others). You do not say how you are accessing the Descendant Report and whether you have looked at the Report Options provided for each. There is also an option to show the number of Generations on the opening page for both Descendant Charts and Books.
If these are correctly set, and you still have problems, please come back to us, specify whether you are looking at Chart or Book (list or narrative) creation, your settings - or at least the relevant ones :-) - and exactly what is produced.
I started off using FTM 2006, which I liked very much. At that time I paid £65 in English money (bought it in 2005). At that time I was using Windows XP and everything worked very well. New computer and the dreaded Vista operating system. Loads and loads of problems with FTM. Again, new computer Windows 7 and whatever I did there was no way I could get it to work, even with the patch.
About a month ago, I had no choice but to upgraded to FTM 2011 (including 6 months subscription to Ancestry and instruction book, £20.00 from Amazon) but it is so hard to use. I accept that it is a while since I bought the original programme but the new version is so unlike 2006 version that it seems like another programme altogether. Most of the important utilites were left out of 2011 version, such as the ability to copy to clipboard, which was most important to me. A lot of my contacts dont know what a gedcom file is and use Word, so it was simpler to send them a file in this format.
Someone suggested I try Legacy. I have heard of this programme but it is not widely advertised in England (suggestion to distributers, target the UK market). I got so fed up with FTM that I downloaded Legacy and was pleasantly surprised how easy it was to use.
The only problem I had was the report option but I was clicking on the wrong option. I will continue to practice with it but so far I am more than happy to use it as my only Genealogy programme. Feel free to quote me. Regards Jean
One page of my Descendant Report. I cannot find the option to save as a RTF and the PDF option is not allowed (at the moment I am using the free 7.5 download) before I decide to go to the Delux version)
One of the reasons I converted from FTM 2011 to Legacy is that I wanted to copy the entire file to clip board, not just one page but it does not seem possible.
I have just tested using the basic version and an RTF file can be created. The option is above the PDF option on the right hand side "Rich Text File". You can then open it in WORD. Or, if you wish, in WordPad and copy/paste into WORD.
Something does seem to be wrong here. An *rsl file is an Adobe PageMaker extension and has nothing to do with Legacy - as far as I know this extension is not used by Legacy at all.
It may be that somehow there is a corruption of the two programs.
