Henry Connors/Hanrahan

Hello,

I'm looking for any information about my paternal grandfather's younger brother, HENRY CONNORS.

He was born on Jul 12, 1886 in the Workhouse Hospital in THOMASTOWN, KILKENNY, IRELAND. His mother, JOHANNA CONNORS (b. Dec 18, 1855) was a servant and there was no information for his father.

In the 1901 Census of Ireland, Henry is living in Thomastown, Kilkenny with his mother now married (m. Feb 9, 1891) and his step father, RICHARD HANRAHAN (b. Dec 8, 1830) and his three half sisters: MARGARET HANRAHAN (b. Mar 23, 1893), MARY HANRAHAN (b. Feb 19, 1894) and JOHANNA HANRAHAN (b. Jun 29, 1897). He is listed as HENRY HANRHAN in the census.

He is not listed in the 1911 Census of Ireland.

Any help and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Susan,

Did you check the US Census for 1920 to see if the family shows up there? It is entirely possible he may have moved to the USA or to Canada or Austraila soon after 1910?

Also Hanrahans were known by the name of Hanratty as well.

Hi Donna,

Thanks for your message. I am in the process of various records.

Today I was checking the 1911 Census of England as it is free today. There are many Henry Connors and not quite as many Hanrahans but the return does not show their age for where they were born so it wasn't any help.

I'm checking Family Search records but there are pages to search and I'm not through all of them yet.

I've also check the US Census but again I've not been able to say "this is my Henry".

I think he might have joined the British Army as his older brother Patrick Connors (my grandfather) did but I haven't got that far yet.

I didn't know that Hanrahan's were also know as Hanratty, so I'll check that surname too. Thanks for that tip.

One last thing, Susan.

The name Connor is often spelled O'Conor or O'Connor in Ireland especially the Kilkenny area.

Take note that the Irish families got repelled from their homelands during the Cromwell invasions where Cromwell instituted a new order of things setting the English lords above the Irish clans and their Kings.

So the O'Connors might have been relocated to another area other than Kilkenny. I will have to look up my link to the information about where the Families went after Cromwell came. Let me get back to you on that one.
