I would be applying for the patriot Daniel Bailey b. 13 Mar 1728 died 15 Jan 1798. He is listed in the patriot index. I also have copies of serveral "record copies" that were provided by relatives. National Number 631212, 331108, 210321, 43105, and 51392 that have very good information on Daniel Bailey. I created a document in the format that the DAR asks for the information that has the lineage from Daniel Bailey Sr. to my great grandmother Laura Ann Bailey and on to me. I have documentation to support it. I guess I'm not exactly sure where to go from here. Should I work with a local chapter in Colorado to go to the next step? I know I'm close!
Yes, definitely work with a local chapter. You can not submit an application on your own, it has to be through a chapter. Sounds like you are just about there. Good Luck!
Yes find a local chapter and contact them. Sounds like your on your way of becoming a member of DAR.
Have you look to see if the child you connect to from Daniel Bailey has been done? If it has then you just have to do a short form and not a long one. hope that makes sense. Im the lineage person for our chapter here in Wv. I belong to the Kanawha Valley Chapter.
My patriot Thomas Clardy from Halifax Co. VA was allready proven. I put another one of his childern that not been proven yet. That was Mary Clardy who married Pleasant Mays in the 1820's. They moved to Botetrout Co. Va and came to Boone Co. and Lincoln Co. Wv after the 1860's.
Ive been a member for the past 6 years and belong to the Kanawha Valley Chapter located in Charleston, WV. Im very active in our chapter too.
Im head of the linage research and work closely with our Register in helping others get into the DAR. We have over the past year have proven two new patriots.
Hi Everyone,
My ancestor is Sherod Williams, and though I have succeeded in obtaining SAR membership for my son through the chapter in Tennessee our patriot served I have not sent mine through as I am not real pleased with the chapter I would have to use. The only activies they seem to do is fund raising for national causes, I am not a fundraiser I am a volunteer who works to make a difference and sending money some where that I cannot see the benefits of is not appealing to me at all, so unless I move any time soon my records will all sit and wait.
You might check and see if there are any chapters in nearby towns or join the chapter in the state where your ancestor served. You might not be able to be too active from a distance, but at least then you'd have your papers approved.
Thanks Nancy, I thought of this but a chapter president who is also a descendant of this same ancestor said I needed to go locally even though we share 80% of the same information.
In our Chapter we support our local Veterans and are always helping them out etc though the year. Then we support several schools and colleges too nationally. Plus we gather up soup labels for the schools etc plus supplies. Then we also collect coupons and send them over sea to the military bases for families.
Yu can join any chapter you want to sweetie regardless of where you live at etc. We have ladies who have joined our chpater and live out of state.
Debbie I would be very interested in hearing more about this. I was told out right that joining my local chapter was the only way I could file the application.
