I am searching for my Jones line from Kentucky. My 2x Great Grandparents were Harry Jones and Jane Bottoms, married June 20, 1849 in Mercer County, Kentucky. I don't know how many children they had and I don't have their dates of birth or death. Their son, John William Jones (1859-1937) was my Great Grandfather who married Sarah Ellen Lucas (1859-1933) on June 5, 1881 in Benton, Missouri and they had eleven children: Ocean Frances Jones, James Richard Jones, William Henry Jones, Laura Belle Jones, Harrison Elmer Jones, Edgar Lee Jones (died in infancy), Thomas Lonnie Jones, Bertha May Jones, Mary Alice Lena Jones, Robert Wesley Jones and Chester Pete Jones.
In response to Gene Dixon post dated July 2009.
Wallace Jones 1773, Newberry Co., SC and wife Rachel Patty. Wallace son of
Wallace Jones 1742, Surry Co., VA and wife Elizabeth Fritz.
Because both of the above have been titled as Jr. the natural conclusion was that
Wallace 1742 was the son of Wallis Jones 1710 VA died Edgecombe (Halifax) Co., NC.
However, recently placed on-line is; Newberry County, South Carolina: Historical and
Genealogical Annals by George Leland Summer. . . see page 352/3. . . .
Wallace Jones Sr. moved from Newberry District to Greenville Dist; later he moved to
Ohio with the Quakers, about year 1808. He was known as "Cap" Jones on account of
services as a as a patriot in the Rev. War. He was born 1742, married Elizabeth Fritz,
who was born 1744. He died 1823 and his widow 1830. He was the son of Henry Jones.
Their children were: Wallace Jr. and wife Rachel, etc. . . . . . . .
The above is either an error or every tree I have seen on this family (which is my family) has
been laboring under the misconception of the usage of Jr. Sr. and the possible confusion of
our ancestors on how to use these descriptive phases. Any help on the resolve of quandry?
