Hi Robert,

Thx for your email welcoming me to GS.  I will gather my info on Toth's this weekend and get back to you. Also, are there any specific recipes you would like?  What I don't have, (which are very few!!)  I can probably get from my family. Thx again and I'll get busy!!!

Robert,

Sry it's taken me a while to get back to you.  I know there was a way that my Toth's distinguished themselves from other Toths.  They used the middle name Galumbash  ( that's how it sounds but not sure of correct spelling). Don't know for sure, but I think it was the name of the village they lived in Hungary.  (I haven't been able to find it!)  They did this because the Toth name is so common.  My Toth relatives settled in McKeesport, PA.  Also, my Grandfather Cherny's sister Rosa married a Toth.  She was originally from Jolsba, Hungary (now the Czech Republic).  They lived in Allegheny City, PA (not sure where that is, probably in Western PA)  Hope this helps.  I can try to get more info, if you have specific questions! And, I just found a 2nd cousin I didn't know I had, on Ancestry.com.  It's been a real story how that happened!  Hope you can experience the same with your relatives!!!

Good luck in your search!!

Barb

thank you Barb, i have no way of knowing if they are related to your Toths... not sure where Galumbash is or if it even exists but it is a good guess... anything is possible... my Toths were from the area of Budapest... not actually in the city but in an outer farming community.... what is really sad is that i have living relations in Hungary who for whatever reasons do not know or will not tell anything about them... i have asked but do not get any reply...i suppose that the fear of reprisal from the government is still ingrained in there minds..

Hi Robert,

I just saw that I had msgs!  Sry for not responding sooner!!  My Toth relatives lived in McKeesport, Pa., after immigrating from Hungary.  I know some were from a town near Budapest, but, don't have the name.  Those Toth's used the middle name Galombash (sp?) as a middle name and that was used to distinguish them from other Toth's.  My Aunt Betty Toth's Mother was a Hunyadi (Hunyady).  There were from Transylvania.  My MGM's 2nd Husband was a Hunyadi and brother to Aunt Betty's Mother.  The Hunyadi Castle in Transylvania belonged to the family.

As for the recipe's, is there any in particular you would like?  I have so many, it's easier to just ask that ?.

Hope to hear from you, and, I'll try not to take so long to reply!!

Barb

BTW, Robert.  If there are any recipes you specifically want, plz let me know.  I have so many that it would take forever to post them.  And, that goes for anyone else who may be interested!!

Barb

Barbara, did your "Rozany" family have a theatre in Budapest by chance?  I'm going to post about the theatre seperately.

Stacye

I'm not sure.  My cousin found the Rozany relatives in Hungary.  I can talk to him and find out.  It may take a little while, as I have to track him down through his sister!!  LOL!!  I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

I would love to have any information you have and share what I have...thx!!

Barb

Info on my relatives:  My Cherney (C s i r n i) relatives were from Jolsba, which is now a part of Slovakia, I believe.  My Andras (Andrew) Cherney had a brother and a sister.  He came over from Jolsba to McKeesport, PA where his sister, Rosa Csirni Toth lived.  He married my Grandmother, Helen Magyar, who came, with her family from Nyireghaza, Hungary.  My Mother and Aunt were born in 1913 and 1915 respectively, in Pittsburgh, PA.  My Grandmother and Grandfather divorced, which was unheard of in the 19-teens. The family was then divided. Because of this, I only met my MGF once.  I just recently, (2011) found GF Cherny's Great Niece, on Ancestry.com.  It has been a GREAT experience!  My Dobrik's (Dobri's) were from Salgotarjan, Hungary.  My PGM was a Varnyu, (V a r n y u ) also from Salgotarjan.  As for the others, I do have some info, if anyone is interested.  Plz contact me if you are!!
