Hi Susan

good to hear from you. Sorry about "not being able to see or hear". Will put it to the society to have Podcasts made in future. I'm not certain but I  believe that there is a video being made of the whole Conference, will check if you are interested, though it would be in PAL format.

 I had my paternal DNA tested on 37 marker recently and found I had a Haplgroup T1, very rare in Ireland or Scotland where my father came from or indeed in Europe. I dont know too much about it really. I think one would have to have a test done on very high markers to get a real result. But ther are cost prohibitive. I noticed you had a podcast on DNA. I downloaded it and found it fasinating and brilliant. You appear to know Irish genealogy well. If it were not for the cost, I would ask our society to send you an invite to give talk.

Hello Declan!

I think we all need to become fluent in videoconferencing technology!  We shouldn't have to miss out on each other's presentations when we are so willing to share them.

I would dearly love to travel to Ireland, but I refuse to submit to US security screening measures to travel anywhere at this point.  My grandfather did not fight in the Ireland war of independence so that my elderly aunt, his oldest daughter, would live in a world where she might face getting strip-searched at an airport.

The DNA technology is constantly getting better and better and I hope we can look forward to costs dropping in the future.

2. Re your grand father - I would be happy to search him on any memorial  and photo

it and email to you. There must be a monument in Skibereen or elsewhere. Have you heard of the song "Skibereen" if not I can email to you.

Thanks Declan!  I actually have a lot of info on Granddad - the only meaningful information missing now is his wartime service activities, and I have a request in the queue in the military pensions office for a copy of his army pension application.  And since he was a Skibbereen boy, I do know the song!
