There are two main sites which will extend your French-Canadian ancestors back in time if they descend from royalty or the nobility:

I descend from Anne CONVENT, wife of Philippe AMIOT-VILLENEUVE and daughter of Antoinette de LONGVAL & Guillaume CONVENT. It is through Antoinette de LONGVAL that my noble and royal lines come from (she would be my "gateway" ancestor). Antoinette's parents are Charles de LONGVAL, whose parents are not known at this time, and Louise de JOYEUSE. See the attached lineage chart for her ancestry. I would be glad to hear from anyone who is researching these families.

I 've read extensivey on the Catherine de Baillon line from which I descend through my Great Grandmother Clementine Dionne ( Cyprien her father son of Salomee Miville-Deschenes etc.) There are numerous articles and two marvelous books on that line and I think that the Amiot line is connected somehow - if you have questions I would be happy to help with the De Baillon line which was traced back to Charlemagne - documented and proven etc.

Thanks, I am not descended from the de BAILLON family although as you say the various ancestors do connect, as I go back to Charlemagne and William the Conqueror. It is fascinating as the lines go back to England, Scandinavia, Germany, Spain, Russia, Hungary, Georgia, Byzantium. Lots of crusaders also, cannot focus as there are so many directions to go in. I have posted stuff on the medieval & Eleanor of Aquitaine groups here, maybe that will give you some idea of the lines I descend from. Thanks for your response. Jim.
I am descended from William III through his son John of Gaunt and Katherine Swinford. To follow back William the Conqueror and back to Charlemagne. I guess related to many back through the ages. Isn't genealogy great?
I find it quite interesting, as one person wrote on their blog "If you don't have fun doing genealogy, you're not doing it right."
Attached are two ancestry charts to show some more of my ancestors, again additions / corrections appreciated, thanks, Jim.
