Where are the Surname Folders?

HI Sandy,  

Initially I think we are all supposed to list some of the families we are looking for so that others can connect with us.  

 

Sometimes, what is a McDonald might actually be a McDonnell, so if you have say ten family lines that need help with.  I would list them here and then you might actually get a real nibble on the McDonald line as well.  I have never seen a Surname folder here....but then someone else might actually know where they are if there are any.

 

I am looking for Day/Dea/Dye/Die/Dey; O'Hehir/O'Hare/Hare; Brady, Garside and too many more to list tonight.

But these are the ones I need now.  So if you have any clues for me--post a reply and I will help you find some of your McDonalds.  Do you have any names and DoBs for them? or wedding dates or anything like that?

Thanks for taking the time to respond Donna.  When I set up my home page there was a space for surnames.  It would be nice to have a listing somewhere by Surname of all the different researchers. I would think it would be fairly simple since just about every genealogical society site has one but I don't know how to program.

 

My McDonalds are at a brick wall.  I've been working on them for years.  Patrick was born in Ireland and I know he was in Iroquois, Matilda, Dundas, Ontario, Canada by 1837 because he fought in the War of the Rebellion.  I've found all the census and his death record.  I've checked church, cemetery, immigration records and newspapers with no luck.  I've pulled records on his wife and all his children. Each record indicates a different date of birth from 1806 - 1817 but it was in Ireland.  He married about 1845 in Ontario.

 

Recently I've been in contact with another McDonald family.  They settled in the same very small place, Iroquois.  James McDonald immigrated between 1840 - 1845.  I don't know if his unnamed wife immigrated too or died in Ireland.  His young daughter Maria immigrated.  Again nothing more specific than "Ireland" and no date of immigration.

 

I have worked on other Patrick McDonalds and disproved them as being mine.  He was not one of the Robinson settlers and he lived his life in Iroquois.  To my knowledge he never owned land although I did obtain a copy of a land grant request for militia and public service.  Unable to determine if a grant was awarded to him. 

 

I've not come across your surnames.  What are their locations and time frames?  Most of my research centers on familes from Syracuse, NY & Niagara County, NY (Central & Western NY).  Then I have a handful of Mohawk Valley Loyalists in Canada, And I've been able to take a few lines back into Germany & England.

Sandy, I agree with you. I cannot locate the folders. How do we connect with others with the same surname here? Have you learned more about this?

I have many of the same questions. I was hoping this is a place to connect with others. However, it just seems like a place to submit queries. 

I'd like to reach out to others but have no information on their surnames.

Have you tried the facebook groups? There is one for each county in Ireland and there's lots of sharing of ideas.
