I have watched the on-line Mentoring Class on the "Written Exam and Oral Review."  One thing I took away from the lesson was the suggestion to practice doing a 3 hour research project.

Can anyone suggest ways to define a problem that would serve as a good practice 3-hour research project?

I suggest that you take any project from your pedigree and time yourself. Only 3 hours to research, keep a log, charts and write a report containing the key elements of objective, evidence analysis, etc. Most people find that they can research half the time or maybe 2 hours and save the rest for report writing.
