Need ideas of alternative sources besides the US Federal Census
The US Federal Census, is a great genealogical tool, to find and locate ancestors, but obviously it's not the only source.
What do you use, when you need or seek an alternative?
Overton County, Tennessee, has extreme "drawbacks" when it comes to researching our Tennessee Ancestors.
In 1865, at the end of the American Civil War, the Overton County Courthouse, was burned, destroying many records.
In 1934, a fire at the Pickett County Courthouse, destroyed many records.
Finally, with the creation of Dale Hollow Lake, in 1943, many Ancestors lands, homes and towns were wiped away and flooded over (in Clay, Overton, & Pickett Counties).
Where do you look for and find, records (such as birth/baptism, marriage, tax rolls, land deals (purchase/sales), probate, death records, etc.), when so much has been lost?
When so little can be found, online.
How do you know, that ancestors are "connected", when looking pre-1850 US Federal Census, etc.?
What sources, could we use to make these "connections"?

Don't know if you are still here or not, but one source I have found to be useful is county histories. For instance, The Goodspeed History of Wilson County, Tennessee which can be found HERE.

Well, I wish someone wrote about Overton County, Tennessee, as well as they did about Wilson County
