Hello All,

I am need of some help.  I thought I had found her parents but apparently I was wrong.

Here is what I know.

My 2gr grandmother was Clarina/Clerina DUBE

Born: 28 Oct 1862 in Canada

Died: 30 Sep 1950, Montreal, Canada

She married, Zephrin Lefebvre, not sure where or when.

Together they had 6 children that I've found: Lea, Joseph Henri, Emma, Eva, Yvonne, Regina (all born in the US)

In 1880 they were residents (don't know citizenship status) of New Hampshire and then they moved to Fall River (I have them in the City Directory).

I'm looking for her Clarina/Clerina's parents.  Family stories say either a Duncan DUBE or Demasse DUBE.  I've never found a Duncan and when I researched Demassee, he was married to another woman and my Clarina was not listed as one of his children.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

1) Demassee is probably Damase, it is often Anglicized to Thomas.

2) If Damase & wife were married in Quebec I would look in the Loiselle marriage and Rivest marriage indexes. The films can be ordered through your local FHC. Loiselle index is cross referenced (male & female), Rivest is female only. I do not subscribe to Ancestry but they have the Drouin collection of marriages for Quebec and I do not know how or if they are indexed. FamilySearch also has the Drouin collection (therefore overlaps Loiselle a lot it also coversfree) but I don't think this has a comprehensive index.  Loiselle index covers about 70% of Quebec including some adjacent areas, while Rivest overlaps Loiselle it also covers some Loiselle does not.

3) Once you have determined the correct couple you can look at the parish where they were married to determine baptisms and burials. The parishes as I mentioned are available at both Ancestry and FamilySearch.

Good luck.

Hi there Michelle,

I looked into this very quickly, so I definitely don't have all the answers you're looking for, but I wanted to help if I could.  Dube is a difficult name because it is spelled wrong so often!

I did not find an immediate match on Ancestry for a marriage for Clerina/Clarina Dube and Zephrin Lefebvre.  Although Clerina is obviously a family name in the Dube family, there were several women with the name.  It is possible they were married in the United States, but more likely spelling is just throwing off the search results.  We often have to search the Drouin records for hours for the results we find.  There were a few trees on Ancestry with these people in them, but they have no sources for their information and even just looking quickly I caught several things that made me think there had been some errors made and the information is not correct.

I did find one record, if you would like a copy please contact me and I will send it to you.  1871 Canadian Census was listed under 'Duké' but it shows Clerina Dube at 8 years old, daughter of Mirence Lemire and Damase Dube.  It is from the municipality of  Ste Clothilde D'Horton, in the region of Arthabaska of Quebec.  Further on the same pages is another Lemire family but I couldn't not tell you their relation to Mirence.  It is most likely that Mirence was actually 'Emerence' and no one could guess at the spelling when writing the census.

Hopefully news that this family did exist is helpful to you, best of luck with all your future searching,

Jennifer Layne

Jennifer,

I would love a copy. That sounds like her. I'm having a hard time accessing any of the Canadian records. My family is all from Quebec with the exception of one or two people that preferred Montreal (not sure why yet). So I've been trying to access either the Drouin records or the Tenquey (spelling?) and am just not having any luck.

My email address is: mkgimelberg@gmail.com

Thank you,
Michelle
