I'm looking up my ancesters that came from Ireland, Morris, his wifes maiden name was O'Dell. Looking for any kind of info. They came from Galway, Ireland in the 1600's.

I'm looking up anchesters from Galway Ireland in the 1600" Their name was Morris who married an O'Dell. Then they came to America. I would like to find about their parents.

Peggy, when you get back that far, it gets really hard to find any existing records. Were they RC or C of I or what? There are some very early ship lists that exist; do you know where they came to in America? Have you checked for all possible records in the US before trying Ireland? That means ALL possible records; land records, church records, marriage records, baptismal records, census records - newspaper articles, war records - anything that is possible to find here. Do you know why they came in the 1600s? That is awfully early for Irish immigration - there must have been a good reason. Check Irish history for the time frame, that might help you locate the area in Galway. Check Galway history too. Do internet searches (I especially like google) for the history of Galway in the 1600s.
I got most of my info from my daughter & I'm trying to find out more about them. Its on my mother side.
