Hi there! I have an ancestor David Jarvis, b. 1813 in Kincardineshire, who emigrated from Scotland to New York in the 1840s. While his wife Helen McGregor (m. 1838 Dundee, resided 1840 Linlithgow) and their two children (William and Mary Jane) returned to Scotland, where Helen remarried Charles Douglas, David disappears completely. Did he die in an influenza outbreak? Head West in search of gold and not keep in touch? I seem to have DNA matches that have Jarvis in their family trees, but that may be coincidental, as I've had no luck connecting them to my Jarvis family. The name is just so common. If this rings any bells for anyone, I'd love to know!
My name is Edward Jarvis and live in suburbs of Cleveland,Ohio in United States. I am married to Carrie Sines Jarvis and have a son Adam Jarvis. My mother (Denise Pidgeon Jarvis) and father (Joseph Jarvis who just passed Oct. 2012).
To distinguish myself from the other Christine Jarvis: I am in Canada. I'm new to this site / beginner at tracing my family. My grandfather was William Jarvis, also called Jack (John). William was sent to Canada with his brother Joe (Joseph) Jarvis, I believe by Barnardo schools pre-1918 (WW1). They worked farms in northern Ontario (Coldwater area). William married Blanche Wilson of Honey Harbour, Ontario Canada. William & Blanche had two children: my father Lavern Allan Jarvis, and Devere Frieda Jarvis (now Saunders). Would like to go back before William to his family, all of whom remained in England, as far as I know. Many thanks for any help!
I have run into a brick wall researching my Jarvis family. I have traced my roots back to Joseph Jarvis 1707-1781 in Fritwell England. I believe his parents were John 1680-1716 and Elizabeth (I think of Stoke Lyne) but I cannot find any information on them (will, marriage, death). Our branch of the family ended up going to Canada in 1855. I have yet to find any living relatives in England. Is there anyone who can help me ?
Thank you!
