Hi my name is Vambra and I am trying to find information on a George Sheppard. He was either in the merchant or royal navy during World War 2 and during a stop over in Cape Town met my Grandmother and then returned home. There was some confusion as to whether home was Ireland or Scotland. However my DNA results have only 8% Scottish but 46% Irish from the North Munster and North Tipperary area. This would definitely be from my mothers side. Any information about a Sheppard in the navy during the war would be greatly appreciated please.
Any help appreciated for connecting to any of our Sheppard's in Ireland or Britain.
Thanks in advance, Paul Sheppard
Good to hear from you Peter! You might want to get in touch with Barry and Stephen Sheppard who have both posted some great photos from Ireland and is working on Sheppard ancestry as well!
Hi my name is Peter Duffy from Ireland. I have recently become interested in the various decnedants who left Ireland for the states for reason or another.
My great Grandmother was Annie Sheppard from Garden Hill, Castleconnell, Co. Limerick. Her parents were David and Ellen Sheppard. My grandmother had at least two uncles David and William Sheppard. My family still live in Gardenhill to this day.
Dave, I am Joe Sheppard from Georgia USA. I am descended from Thomas Sheppard, Cumberland County New Jersey. I would like to chat with you about the four Sheppard brothers who came to Cumberland county around 1683. Oct 24, 2017
Just in receipt today 29.09.14 of Barry Sheppard Feb 2014 reply. Yes Warrenpoint, Co Down is approximately 12 miles from our location. Any further info would be appreciated.
My Sheppard family starts, as far as I can tell, in London, England. My gr. gr. gr. grandfather Thomas and his wife, Mary Brewer were in Cork, Ireland and their oldest children were born there. The second half of their family was born in Bristol. They then settled in Yorkshire. My gr. gr. grandfather's name was Thomas Todhunter Sheppard. I would like to know where the Todhunter came from. Any connections to anyone here?
Check out this cool portrait of 18th century John Sheppard in the militia!
Thanks to Barry Sheppard for finding it!!

Correction:
My Sheppard ancestors start in England but settled in Ireland with Cromwell's Army:
Thomas Sheppard born about 1590, father of David Sheppard, born abt 1624-1685.
David Sheppard(1624) and Rachel Wausborough (b1625) had John Sheppard in 1655 at Cleagh Keating, Tipperary, Ireland. (+ Giles, Jonathan, David, Thomas, Jonadab, and James.
John Sheppard (1655) and Margritt (1659) had Job Sheppard before 1680 in Cleagh Keating, Tipperary, Ireland. (+ Hannah, Enoch, Dickinson, Margaret, David, and John)
Keziah Sheppard was born about 1701 in New Jersey, USA from Job Sheppard (1680). (no spouse known - other children were Joseph, Robert, Job, Mary, and Kerrenhappuch)
Keziah (1701) married Captain Benoni Dare (1694) in 1745 in Cumberland County, NJ. I am descended from both of their children, James Ayres Dare and Rachel Dare.
My Sheppard family line begins in Ireland with a John Sheppard, an Irish Quaker living from about 1662 to late 1600's. His son, William Sheppard, born in 1682 in Ireland and immigrated to East Nottingham, Chester County, Pennsylvania in 1739. The family lived in Chester County for at least another 100 years. My line, John Sheppard and wife Catherine Taylor(?) moved into the city of Chester, Pennsylvania around 1860-70. Anyone else ever hear of this Sheppard group?
