Hi Cheryl,
Thanks for that information but couldn’t potential students know the proposed content of the certificate especially the DNA specific courses so we know how many more we need to complete and the best package purchase that is appropriate.
just a thought.
Brian
Hi Brian. Yes, we are working on new courses that will be included in the new DNA Certificate when it is released. We are releasing the new courses as they are completed for those who want to get a head start. More courses are still in development. The courses to be included in the DNA Certificate have not been announced yet.
Since the announcement of a DNA certificate I was interested, having completed the available DNA courses, how this certificate course content would develop and how fellow students would be handled if the certificate required modification of any DNA courses previously completed by students. Now, we have advice on a new course which looks both interesting, challenging and appropriate for inclusion in the DNA certificate but surely NIGS already have an overall vision of the DNA courses that will make up the certificate. After all, this would enable current students to purchase an appropriate course package rather than either purchasing one at a time or guessing how many they would need.
I don’t think this is unreasonable as I am sure that all students who have completed either all or any of the DNA courses that have been on offer to seriously consider completing the DNA certificate so why not let us know what NIGS intends including?
Don’t get me wrong I enjoy the courses, how they keep my brain alive and how I might use my acquired knowledge to help people in my community with their research as well as my own research projects aimed at learning more about my ancestors.
Cheers and thanks for another course of interest but why couldn’t we have more notice?
Brian

Hi Cheryl
looking forward to new courses in DNA, Scotland and Italy especially but while I wait I am researching about 1800 passengers from two ships my parents came to Australia on in 1911 and 1912 to see if and individuals or family groups knew each other prior to departure or after arrival in Australia. This is an estimated three year project but has already revealed three families who have links to my ancestors on my maternal side. Keeps the mind active.
That's good news Brian. Glad the courses have been helpful. Watching for the next DNA course. :)
I am just about to complete the DNA Methodology and Analysis course and of the five DNA courses, this course, by taking me back to my DNA test results, has made my DNA results quite useful in my research.
