Here's my brick wall - I'm looking for the parents of Mahala Miller. Mahala married Henry Miller and as far as I can tell, they had 4 children (Mollie (my great, great grandmother), Jane, Ida and Annie). According to the 1880 Census she was born 1845 and lived in Lebanon, Kentucky. I have no idea what her maiden name was. I've searched for Mahala's in Kentucky and so far, can't seem to find a connection. The only tidbit of information I have is from my mom, she said that her mom used to say that her grandmother was Indian and Irish which is why she had the Indian shaped nose. Now whether that is true, I don't know. But, that's all I've got

Unfortunately, not much more on the 1880 census. Mahala was 35 (a housekeeper), married to Henry who was 29. The childrens' ages were Mollie (8), Jane (7), Ida (6), Annie (2). It states that her mother and father birthplaces is Kentucky. The original record states they were inhabitants of North Lebanon, Kentucky. I believe all of the kids were born in Kentucky, but I haven't found any documentation to confirm that. I know Mollie married Richard Withrow. I have a copy of Mollie's death certificate, but unfortunately, it doesn't list her mothers maiden name, just her dad's full name. I haven't begun to look for Henry Miller, since it is such a popular name.
Do you have access to the 1900 census (1900; Census Place: Lebanon, Marion, Kentucky; Roll T623_542 Page: 11B; Enumeration District: 75)? If not let me know.

In 1900 Henry has his Sister-in-law living with the family, as well as some grandchildren. Since the Sister-in-law is Dunert (hard to read) Virginia b. 1842, 58, Kentucky, wd., was married 43 years ,mother of 14 with 10 living. She is probably the sister to Mahala. Try looking for her also. Many times families lived within easy access to one another, so maybe they lived close to each other as well as their parents.

The following is according to the 1880; Census Place: Lebanon, Marion, Kentucky; Roll T9_432; Family History Film: 1254432; Page: 32.2000; Enumeration District: 178; Image: 0067.

Right now I have to go out, but when I get home I’ll check some more
I forgot to add that the Millers had 11 children with 9 living in 1900.
I did see this census and I'm currently search down that road. Thanks.
Did you know that Morgan's Raiders burned the clerk's office destroying all records on 5 Jul 1863, for Marion county, Kentucky? If your family is from that area, you might not find any records.

Do you know anymore of the names of the children? When and where did Molly die? Her death certificate should say where she is buried. You might contact the cemetery to see if her parents are also buried there.
I don't have any other names at this time. Molly died here in Wisconsin. I have a copy of her death certificate, but unfortunately it doesn't contain much information. I also know that her parents did not move to Wisconsin.
Pam,

Sometimes we over look death certificates when doing genealogy. I know when I look, I seem to skim over them because I know so much of the info on it already.

Look again at Molly's and see who provided the information, her birth date, her death date, what age she died, parent's names and birth place, if it names the spouse, was she widowed, divorced or married, and when and where she is buried.

Did Molly move to Wisconsin with family? Since Mahala and Henry probably didn't leave Kentucky, do you know anything about when or where they died?

Do you know if Mahala or Henry had middle names? Do you know if any of their children had middle names, and if so, what. Some families will use the mother's last name as a first or middle name for a child of theirs. Also, what are the names of Molly's children? She may have used her mom's last name for one of her kids.

Sometimes we need to think outside of the box to connect all the dots. The more info you give us the better, even if you think it's useless info.

I'm in Salt Lake until Friday, so if I can I'll try some look-up's for you. I'm working here this week for someone, so I'm not sure I can get to it, but if I can I will.
Thanks for the tips. The information for the death certificate was provided by her daughter (my grandmother). She didn't list her mother's name, just her father's name (which is weird-I would have thought she would have known her grandmother's name). I don't have middle names for neither Mahala or Henry. I believe her daughter Ida's middle name was Mae (very popular, of course) and Molly's was Letecia, not sure about Annie's. I know Molly had other children between 1880 and 1900, but I can't find them anywhere and I don't know any names. Molly moved to Wisconsin with her husband, Richard Withrow and her daughter Mattie. As far as death information, I have none for Henry or Mahala.
Mollie died in 1940. Her SS# was not listed on her death certificate.
According to the 1900 census, Mahala (Mahale) married Henry Miller in 1867. She had 11 kids, but only 9 were living. I can only account for 4 kids. Where are the rest of them???
Yes it does, because two of the four children listed correlate with the names my mom provided (Molly - my great grandmother) and Ida (my mom remembers this aunt). So I believe the information is correct. But, this information was provided on the 1880 census, not the 1900 census. There's no mention of these kids on the 1900 census, so it is possible that this is a different Mahala and Henry Miller on the 1900 census (but what are the chances???). I haven't located Mahala or Henry on the 1910 census. But, I'm able to track Mollie and Ida a bit and I believe Annie died in 1914. However, nothing on Jane Miller.
Hi Pam-

I'm wondering about the grandchildren that are listed with Henry and Mahala in 1900? Do you know anything about these girls?
