My Pvt. James Landreth Malcolm, CSA musician, died Old Salem, N.C., Nov. 8, 1895, age 79. Wife Elizabeth W? "Betty" Page Malcolm died Winston-Salem, N.C., 3-31-1892, age 69. They married Guilford Co., N.C. Dec. 25, 1843. Elizabeth Page was from Rockingham Co., N.C.

Well, it looks like you will have to look at both families afterall. Be sure to get the books: The Hidden Half of the Family by Christina Kassabian Schaefer and Discovering your Female Ancestors :Special strategies for uncovering hard-to-find information about your female lineage. Both are very good books.

I'm sorry for any confusion.The story has it that John LePage & Mary Louise Brunette had children, somewhere in there the prefix Le was dropped. I'm not sure when. my Page or LePage family setteled in the Green Bay Wisconsin area & before that Michigan

So you are saying the the Page is a typo and should be LaPage and son John Jr didn't drop the La. Yes, it does make a difference. It means you don't have to look through all the Page family and just the LaPage ...at least in the beginning. If you come to a brick wall then you'll have to search the Pages in the area.

Thanks for the advice. I'll give it a try. My grandmother never really talked about her parents that much. Then again I was very young at the time. I misspelled the surname. It's really LePage. But I'm sure that doesn't make much of a difference.

Since your g-g grandparents have the surname LaPage that means they are from the French side. John (jr) dropped the La (means "the" in French. So I would start with your family and work back getting birth, marriage and death records. Also see if you can get the marriage or church records of John and Opha (?) Page. Try to use a question mark for a maiden name and not the married name when asking about information and also in your computer genealogy program. Sorry I can't help more. My grandfather was born in Shullsburg, Wisc.His grandfather brought the family over from Yorkshire Eng. they were lead miners.

I'm new to Genealogy Wise. My great-great grandparents were John & Louise LaPage. His son was John Page. He married Orpha Page in Wisconsin.
