Thank you both for your help!  I always use the proper inks and paper for each printer.  I am planning on doing regular documents on the laser and photo's & census on the epson inkjet.  I have just recently purchased 11x17 ring binders for census and original document preservation in archivial 'jackets' and will do the regular book (ie: from my legacy program in 8.5x11 format, also with 'jackets'.  I will then reference all the census etc in the book.  Yes, I do plan on several copies for safe keeping!

Thanx again for the input!

LeLani, I would say the inkjet may be better than the laser type printer but it often comes down to the quality of the materials. Use the manufacturers original inks if you can as they are often the best quality. Epson inks are particularly good as they are considered to be one of the better ones for longevity. I would back up Jennifers comments about the storage. Make sure you give away at least one copy of your tree to another family member as that doubles the chance of survival. Haden

There is not much difference between using laser or inkject for documents. The best way to guarantee long-term preservation is through the quality of paper and storage. Store the papers you want to keep long-term in a dry, cool, dark place (Not the attic or basement - interior closets work well). Type of ink does make a difference for photographs.

I have a question about archivial paper and ink.  I have Laser and inkjet printers that I use for regular documents and an epson 3800 inkjet that I use for photo's, etc.  Using all the 'right' paper and photo paper, is it better to use the laser or inkjet printer for the regular documents? Life-time storage is my main goal!

Thanx,

LeLani
