Welcome to the Wales and Welsh Genealogy Group. This is a group focused on Welsh Genealogy and other topics related to genealogy in Wales (map). Welsh Genealogy is not for the faint of heart and can be extremely challenging. But, it is also one of the most interesting pursuits and hobbies that you can find.
If you're just getting started, the BBC has a wonderful section on their web site devoted to Family History in Wales. If you're looking for more detail about Welsh Genealogy, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has a great Research Outline for the Country of Wales.

Hi everyone,
I have just started doing some research on an ancestor Frederick Montague BRITTEN who was born in Wales about 1860 and migrated to Australia where he married in 1892. When I unearth some more specific information about his parents and birthplace I hope that there will be some members here who can guide me from afar with suggestions for places to research.
regards
Wendy
Greetings, everyone.
It's been ages since I looked at this site. So many of us thought it would be the next FB for Genealogists. I'm sure part of the problem (at least with me) is there are too many places for genealogists and little time!
Regardless, I wanted all of you who are not aware that I have written a book on genetic genealogy. It really is very basic and goes a bit (KEY WORD: BIT) beyond the basics.
It is available in paperback and e-book. Check it out!

My ggg-grandmother was Eliza Griffiths born 1809, Wales. Trying to determine husband and what happened to him. Wales 1851 census shows her with children in Abergwawr, Aberdare, Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorganshire. My gg-grandfather was born in 1849, Gomer Griffiths. Eliza came to America in 1853 with the children but no husband. I have for several years attempted to find my ggg-grandfathers name and death. Any help or direction appreciated.

Hi David
Many thanks for the link to Churches of Wrexham site. It will make interesting reading especially as I live in Australia and am far away from Wales.
The Welsh side of the Dutton family is what interests me around 1810-40, I know nothing about James Dutton apart from what I read in his son’s Birth Cert in 1840. All I know is he remained in Tybroughton, whilst his son James moved to Manchester.
I am hoping to find someone with a similar interest in the Dutton Welsh line.
regards Ingrid
Hi Ingrid,I am not researching your family line, but I do have family connections with Hanmer.Try this web site and just use your surname.www.openchurchnetwork.co.uk
It will give you a good list of Dutton's in the area.I came from that area some 30 years ago but still have family in the area.
You could also try BT residential phone directory.good luck contact me if i can help further,Regards David Morris
My gggrandfather James Dutton was born in Tybroughton, Hamner, Flint on 31 August 1840. On his birth certificate his parents were James Dutton (agricultural worker) & Mary (Lea) of Tybroughton, Parish of Hanmer, Flint.
I have found a James Dutton (c1809) who married Mary (Lea) born in Iscoyd, Tybroughton with children including a James who could possibly be my gggrandfather.
I really would like more information to tie this down. Is there anyone who is researching this line that can help me?
