I have a solid granite brickwall on my grandmother's family.  Her name was Nevora Porter b. 04 Jul 1871 in KY.  Her parents were John & Mary Porter, no further info has come forth after 10 years of ardent research.  I recently took an Autosomal DNA test and now know that we are descendants of Patrick Porter and Susannah Walker; but, I still cannot prove it with documentation.  I am particularly interested in the Porters of Floyd and Pike Counties in KY.  I would love to find the documentary connection; but, have slim hopes unless I happen to meet someone with the right Bible records.  I own a copy of the book "Picking Up the Porters"; but, could find no connection there, even though I did find a very interesting possible family in that of John Porter and Mary Scott of Pike County, Kentucky.  This particular family was very interesting to me because my mother had always told me that her mother's family had relations in the McCoy family.  Mary Scott who married John Porter was a McCoy relative.  Even though I still have not found the provable connection, I now know, thanks to DNA, which is the correct branch of Porters and that everything my mother told me about her family is 100% true.  That is worth a lot to me.

We are cuzzies. My grandfather is the 4th son of Martha Isabelle/Issabella "Mattie" and William Cicero.  I have quite a bit on the family.  I have researched with a cuzzie who is on the Cooper side. I would love to compare.  Franmuse@aol.com

My John Porter was born 1759 in England.  He came to America abt 1773 and was in New York in 1776 when he was in the Queens American Rangers as a drummer.  He was in many skirmishes from Pa to So.and No. Carolina, Va, NJ back to Pa. and NY.  He was a Loyalist.  in Oct 1783 he and his wife Mary were rafting up the St. John River in New Brunswick when he mysteriously slipped of the raft and drown.  There was a Hessian with them named Johann Christian Fuchs.  Mary was pregnant and after John Porter drown she and Johann who changed his name to John Christian Fox married and when he couldn't get Porter Sr's land he made Mary give up the baby who was born in Spring of 1784 as the land grant went to Seniors son  John Porter, Jr.

We have no idea where in England he was born or his parents but there was a Thomas Porter that came with John and Thomas was also in the Queens American Rangers as a private.

My connection to PORTER is my Great-Grandfather, twice removed, Rev. John A Porter. His daughter, Martha Isabella, married my great-great-grandfather, William Cicero McMillan, Sr. Rev. Porter's first wife, Emily Cooper, is buried at Washington Street UMC in Columbia, SC, where I live. I have been looking for further information to extend the family tree into the past.

My brick wall is my great great grandmother.  She was Josephine Alice Porter, born 20 Jan 1846 in Virginia (probably what is now central West Virginia) and died 10 Aug 1912 in Wood County, West Virginia.  She married William Benton Linger who was born 15 May 1841 and died 11 Feb 1921 also in Wood County.  They had previously lived in Upshur County, West Virginia, but had moved near some of their children.  I know nothing further of her other than oral tradition that said she had come (from where??) to work for one of the Linger families in the area.  Any help will be appreciated.

I am looking for the parents of James Porter born in Pennsylvania in 1803 and died Feb 1860 in Neshannock, Mercer Co. Pa.  He married Rachel Waugh, born 1795 and they live around the Mercer County area most of their married life. They had the following children; Margaret C. born 1823, John Waugh born 1825, Sarah Jane born 1829, Eliza L. born 1831; Francis Curtis born 1834, Rebecca J. born 1835; Rachel Lorinda born 1837.

My Porters begin with Patrick Porter, born in Ireland about 1759, married Margaret Harkness and emigrated to Pennsylvania about 1794, then moved on to Ohio.  His son John S. Porter, born 1792 in Ireland moved to Pennsylvania, Ohio, and then Illinois. His son Joseph was my great grand father. His son Edwin Carl Porter, my grandfather, moved to Wichita, Kansas.

Searching surname Porter. The line I am searching has roots in Wakulla County, Fl, southern GA including Boston and Thomas counties and also some from the Carolinas. Probably others. Remer Wesley and William Rayford Porter (twin sons of ) Levi / Levy R Porter son of William R Porter. Any photo's stories, newspaper articles including obituaries or any other information would be appreciated.

1. Samuel Porter (?1722?) & Sarah ?Elliott?
2. Samuel Porter (1766) & Persis Perry
3. Robert Perry Porter (1806) & Abigail Hutchinson
4. Robert Perry Porter Jr. (1842) & Electra Trull
I have some "preponderance of evidence" that the first Samuel was the son of Benjamin Porter & Hannah Endicott of Salem, MA. Benj. was the last child of Israel Porter & Eliz. Hathorne.

I'm researching Porters from Cheshire & Sullivan Counties, NH as well as Windham County, VT. Joseph Porter and wife, Calista, reportedly came from Canada and Joseph died in Walpole, NH 12 April 1888. They had at least 8 children: Joseph (1831-1874), Peter (1831-1902), Corliss (1832-1933) (my ancestor), Fred (1839-1929), Frank (1843-1920), Napolean (1849-1891), Ada (1850-1937) (another of my ancestors), and George (1855-1920). I can't find them in Canada.
