A Visit to Pier 21

We recently traveled to Halifax, Nova Scotia and visited Pier 21 – Canada”s Immigration Museum. Between 1928 and 1971  1.5 million immigrants  – war brides, displaced people, evacuee children and Canadian military personnel who passed through Pier 21 , among them my father in law on his first visit to Canada in the early 50’s. Heritage is Part of You

I was recently talking to my sister who lives in Germany. They had just returned from a visit to Israel. She was telling me about the places and landmarks that had made the biggest impression on her. She described to me the The Church of the Pater Noster – (translated from Latin it means “Our […]

Leaving it Behind

Arrival Of Immigrants – Ellis Island 1906Depicts scenes at the Immigration Depot and a nearby dock on Ellis Island. This is the scene of thousands of Europeans immigrating into America at Ellis Island in 1906. All these people left behind their home, their country and often family. In those days that was quite a big step, […]

Belonging

No matter how old we are, we all need a sense of belonging, to be a part of something. We all are branches, belonging to the trunks of our family trees. However we sometimes feel disconnected from families. A sense of not belonging, of being forgotten. Most my brothers and sister live far away, so even though we […]

Finding Ancestors

Dear AncestorYour tombstone stands among the restNeglected and alone. The name and date are chiseled outOn polished, marble stone. It reaches out to all who careIt is too late to mourn. You did not know that I existYou died and I was born.Yet each of us are cells of youIn flesh, in blood, in bone. Our blood contracts […]

Our Roots & Our Branches

I had some fun today, creating this slide show of our Ancestors (actually only from the ones that we have photographs of) It was actually quite easy, and it was free. After all we are Dutch, and we like free things. Just upload your pictures from your computer, add some captions and chose from a […]

A Common Future

I Can Only Imagine As I research all my ancestors, I realize how different the lifes of each of my forefathers were. Life has changed so much through the last centuries, especially the last 50 years. Just have a look at our clothes ( even though some fashions are back in style ), our homes, […]

I am looking for the Kramer family from Sint Jacobiparoche, Het Bildt, Friesland, Netherlands. 9 September 1863 birth of Sytske Kramer. I found her birth record scan online. She died in Racine, Wisconsin (Susan DeYoung) in 1889 of Typhoid fever. Her father was Aart Betzes Kramer and her mother was Maartje Klazes Dijkstra. I was wondering if this family immigrated from Germany? I have a friend who is a Kramer and they were from Germany.

I haven't done any specifically family tree or genealogy scrapbooking, but I have done some digital layouts with old family photographs my aunt scanned and sent me, She found some photos of my great grandmother, and of my grandmother and her sister as young women.

Douwe Harmense, who eventually adopted Talma or Taelman as a surname, came from Friesland. I always heard he was from Harlingen, but Sylvia Binch Talma says he was born in Buitenpost.

Hi Elisabeth....How could I be an Arsenault and not be interested in PEI?!?!? LOL....Most of my research has been in Quebec on my side of the family, but I do have to make it back to PEI for additional research pre-1860's back to the founding of the island. So many relatives there, so little time! LOL....

Have a great day!

Hi
Nice to hear from you. We are just outside Mount Stewart. We are both from England originally. We have been on PEI for just over two years. Spent 4 years in New Brunswick before that. Haven't found much genealogical activity in PEI.
