I'm not really doing family history now, and my Dawsons are only on lateral lines. It's actually a Scottish name, which perhaps explains why there are more of them in the North Country!
I suspect not related. My husband's Edwards forebears arrived in Australia in the 1840s. They were from St Erth, Cornwall. His Dawson forebear arrived later in the 19th century. He was from Corby near Grantham, Lincolnshire.
