This is a comment for Jolene Connelly. I don't know if you have tried looking for your grandfather Yamnicky under a different spelling. Your grandfather probably wanted people to pronounce his name in English correctly, so he changed the beginning letter to "Y" as in yellow. In Czech, the "y" sound is actually written with a "J", giving the spelling "Jamnicky". But a lot of people in the U.S. would pronouce this as "J" as in jam. Looking for the name Jamnicky would make you look in genealogical sources with first letter "J" instead of "y" . I hope this helps you.
Duh! Sorry, I missed that. It could mean that I suppose, but would that be part of the title to the church? Anyway in reading more about the other religions in the area the term they usually use is "elected elder." The P.E. belongs to St. Pauls [which I believe is Catholic] Do they do Elders?
