Good to hear from you Kathy. Such a small world it is...several Dorris brothers settled in Robertson and Sumner County (a couple hundred years ago), and appears many descendants haven't traveled too far since (such as myself). I actually grew up a few miles from Beech High School, not far at all from White House, and graduated from Beech in 1987. My mother is a Dorris, and my Dorris line comes from Ireland, to NJ, to Orange Co., NC, then to middle Tn (Robertson / Sumner Co) in the late 1790s it appears, then onto west Tn (Hardeman Co.) around 1845. According to my research, Wesley Smith Dorris is a second cousin (4x removed) of mine. His picture is hanging in the Carter House museum...just a few miles from where I live in Franklin. He was killed not far from this Carter House during the Battle of Franklin. I'm sure you have visited the Carter House, Carnton Plantation, etc....really interesting. I got really interested in genealogy several years ago, and still very much am, but like you, current affairs (such as three little girls all 5 and under in my case) sometimes overtake the disposable time I used to have in researching our past family members. I guess we would share the same William Dorris, who emigrated from County Down, Ireland to NJ in the middle 1700s, as a 5th or 6th great grandfather!!! ...piecing this genealogy puzzle together is quite fascinating stuff. I love hearing, reading, getting hold of interesting stories, so if you have any of the Dorris clan, please share. Thats why I wanted to actually hold and read the diary of Wesley...it still has his blood on a few of the pages! Very nice to chat with you...perhaps we can share some info in the future. Take care - James E. "Bo" Bankston
